When you're trying to take an interest in your health it can be hard to decipher all the wording and language used on food packaging. Some wording is purely for marketing purposes and here I will help you to read between the lines of the meanings behind some common phrases. Lite or Light - May not mean low in fat or calories
and may refer to another characteristic of the food e.g light potato chips are
thinly sliced and lightly salted (still high in fat), lite olive oil is light
in colour but still has the same amount of fat as regular olive oil. Cholesterol Free
or No Cholesterol - It does not mean
no fat. Cholesterol is only found in
animal products. Many food may be free
of cholesterol but remain high in fat e.g unsaturated oils derived from plants
such as sunflower oil, canola oil and nuts. No Added Sugar -
This applies to foods which contain no
added cane sugar. They can however
contain large amounts of naturally occurring sugars e.g honey, glucose,
fructose, providing similar calories.
Don’t assume it means no sugar, it just means they didn’t add any. Reduced Fat - Contains less fat than the regular or
standard products, but may still be high in fat. The food must be greater than 25% less fat
than it’s regular conunterpart and will be shown in the nutrition panel for
comparison. 90% Fat Free - Means the food contains 10% fat. Look for low fat products that are 95% fat
free or more. Low Fat - Must
not contain more than 3g total fat per 100g of product, eg 3% fat or less High Fibre - Must
have greater than 3g of fibre per specified serving. Natural - Should
not contain, or have ever contained additives such as flavouring or colouring
agents, preservatives, artificial or synthetic ingredients, or added vitamins
or minerals. Pure or 100% - Should only be used to describe
products or parts of products, that contain only one ingredient. Mixed Grain or
Multigrain Bread -No specific
requirement but usually is based on white flour to which various kibbled grains
(wheat, rye, corn, buckwheat) are added.
Generally has as much fibre as brown bread. Low Salt - Less than 120mg sodium per
100g.

Did you make a new years resolution last year to get in shape but didn't get around to it? Join me in 2015 as we start the year with a Bridal Bootcamp challenge. This challenge was successful last year but for this final one I will open it to anyone and not only brides. So if you would like to enjoy the workouts that the past clients have register your interest now.
These group challenges will be held on Monday and Wednesdays at 5:30pm, and aiming to take advantage of the nice weather and have outdoor sessions. This Bridal Bootcamp is only held in Hamilton.
We will be starting with our first workout on Monday 12th January.
The original aim of the Bridal Bootcamp was to provide something low cost for brides as (I've learnt) anything that hints at being for a wedding gets an automatic price hike! The challenge is a 6 week programme and is only $150 for the 6 weeks. So that's 12 training sessions in total, plus it also involves a full body composition analysis so you can track how you did over the time.
Numbers are limited so if you would like to join in for this crazy low price get in touch on 0211523262.
Come and join me and help me keep Bridezilla at bay!!

I now have a new office in Hamilton!! After 7 years in the previous location they have had changes and it sadly is no longer is set up to have a nutrition office. All is not lost I'm still offering my top quality nutrition and personal training services in Hamilton but now you can access me from the Hamilton YMCA gym.
If it's been a while since you last visited the Hamilton YMCA, it is definitely worth a look these days as it's recently had an upgrade and on my first day there I even said "it smells like new shoes"!!
I am looking forward to my new location and getting to know the members at this new facility while still staying in contact with those from the previous gym. If you are unfamiliar with the location of the YMCA you can find me at 36 Pembroke Street, and no doubt you will spot my bright green car!

I am qualified to train pregnant mothers and am looking for some clients to work with. If you are pregnant and would like to stay healthy throughout your pregnancy but be able to exercise in a safe manner please be in touch.
There a many exercise options out there but if the trainer isn't qualified to have you and your baby looked after properly it's a risk you shouldn't take. Pregnant mothers bodies act in different ways to a non-pregnant person and so this needs to be a taken into account when training pregnant clients.
